Asha’s contest podcast had become a minute shorter overnight. “Did the editor cut an important instruction?” she asked. The episode explained how to enter the school’s short-story contest, and the upload deadline was close.

The editing brief called for a concise introduction: keep the essential points, but say them without unnecessary repetition. Asha had mentioned the deadline three times during rehearsal. She had also discussed the colors of the studio microphones.

Entry details were relevant to the listeners’ task; they helped students submit a story. Microphone colors might matter in an equipment review, but did they help anyone enter this contest? The editor could omit material by leaving it out entirely. Asha wanted to know which material had actually disappeared.

She also checked the sequence of instructions. Drafting, checking the word limit, and submitting were steps in an order, not just three items to mention. The edit log and final transcript were ready for comparison.
